Seoul Travel assignments

Recently life has been a bit hectic. Working everyday, trying to sort out our plans for moving to Scotland, having to renew my visa for Japan, finding more assignments here, making plans for how to get clients in the UK and even thinking about where we want to be and want we want to be doing 3, 5 and 10 years from now. This morning we are about to go out in the wind and rain with two trolleys worth of lighting, back drops, materials and props for a baby shoot and tomorrow it’s full on runway shows with The Mercedes Benz Japan Fashion Week. I don’t mind being so busy, I’m pretty tired but I have a big smile on my face every day :-)

In the summer when we were off to Seoul I had a few assignments on in Seoul. Compared to the usual work life here, there were actually fairly simple. We were going to Korea anyway, so I pitched some ideas to a client in the UK and they asked me to do a couple of assignments, one on visual inspiration in Seoul (basically anything to do with architecture, lighting, materials, display, art) and one on urban regeneration. I’d already picked out the areas best suited for these assignments and spent two days wandering around the ultra modern center of Seoul as well as some more outlying areas to visit the Naksan Art Project (an old run down area of Seoul where local art students have literally put their art works on houses, walls and streets to encourage people to visit and bring money into the local economy) and the Dream Forest. They were really nice assignments, basically I just had to be a tourist, follow a route I’d set myself and photograph whatever I saw. I really like the contrasts in Seoul, you have beautiful old palaces along the street from modern city halls and shopping malls, some of the most fashion conscious teens in Asia standing in stark contrast to the traditionally dressed palace guards. The technology there is mind blowing, some friends who move to Tokyo this year and visited Seoul last month remarked to me that their image of what Tokyo would be like didn’t really match life in Tokyo, they found the technology, transport and life in Seoul to be much better and more like the image they had. Seoul is definitely going places, it’s pushing to get more tourists in and it’s working. Good for them.

Impressive and well composed images of Seoul, Will. Interesting to hear that Korea is so well advanced. However, it makes a lot of sense especially the way the Korean automobiles have taken off here in the U.S. Just read you are about to move back to Scotland. That is quite a big move from Japan to Scotland. Best of luck and looking forward to hearing (and seeing) more about your world travels.
