Earlier on this year I was lucky enough to photograph Erochika Bamboo in the Trump Room in Shibuya.

I was only there because my good friend Paule Saviano was in town and he was photographing Erochika as part of his ongoing project on Burlesque dancers which he has exhibited in Tokyo (2007), Shanghai (2007), Lisalmi (Finland, 2008) and this year in Helsinki. Paule was good enough to invite me along and Erochika was kind enough to let me photograph her as well.

She was a joy to photograph, she was really relaxed and very professional, she was the winner of the Miss exotic world Burlesque championships a few years ago and is more than used to cameras, so without much direction she naturally slipped into some elegant poses and it was easy to churn out great shots of her. Also, the surroundings were great, the Trump Room in Shibuya was just amazing. Red velvet walls, oil paintings of regal figures, mirrors, animal heads, chandeliers and spotlights. It was an amazing set up and the fact it was just the 3 of us there made it easy. A few weeks later I went back to the Trump room to shoot an event that Erochika was dancing it, but the venue was full way over capacity and I could barely get a moment without people banging into me or spilling their drinks over me whilst I was trying to get a shot (and I ended up with lot of mediocre shots that aren’t worth uploading).

So, I was glad to just have a day with my friend taking some great portraits of a lovely woman, not photos for a job, just photos for fun. Those are usually the best photos.
